Changing the pickups on a Jackson PC1 guitar is a straightforward job that requires minimal soldering. For this project, you’ll need a 2-pin single-head female jumper cable (also known as a Dupont 2-pin connector). I used an EMG connect cable-the same type typically used to link volume and tone pots with EMG pickups-but similar cables are widely available.

Browse through the photos to see the key steps involved. I was surprised how easy the process was. Since then I’ve swapped pickups multiple times, including the middle pickup to a DiMarzio Steve Vai UtoPIA.
